1. Sound Therapy Workshop: Satya Hinduja

February 12th, 2018

Sound therapist and alchemist, Satya Hinduja, came to Brown and created an ‘Alchemic Sonic Environment’ - an immersive experience tailored to heighten all of the senses in a mode of relaxation…

‘The experience combines the spiritual with the scientific and each multi-sensory site-specific performance is carefully tailored to fit the audience’s needs by tuning a range of variables; from structure to smell, light temperature, sound and space.’

2. Dreamworks Series: Ron de Shay, American Idol Founder
March 3rd, 2018

Founder of American Idol, Ron de Shay, came to speak as the first speaker of the Dreamworks: Make the Dream Work speaker series. He spoke about his rise to the top and the struggles he encountered getting there. He also shared stories of adversities he has faced since in his professional and personal life. Through the Dreamworks Series, the BFG invites individuals who have overcome some great diversity and/or have achieved a challenging aspiration. Watch the video to hear Ron’s talk for yourself!

3. Wellbeing, Self-Love and Compassion Series: Rachel Ryer, Tushita Meditation Retreat
April 6th-9th, 2018

Buddhist teacher, Rachel Ryer, affiliated with the Tushita Meditation Center in the Himalayas, visited us for a 5 day course of Buddhist teachings around love, compassion and stress-management. Rachel’s visit took the format of several 45min sessions of teaching + meditation. Topics included ‘Beyond surviving, thriving with contentment’, ‘What Buddhists do when they get angry’, ‘Friend, stranger and annoying person (who makes you want to…)’. The Tushita Meditation retreat is regularly visited by the Dalai Lama and offers a range of meditation and Buddhism classes.

4. Yoga and Nutritionists on the Green: BFG X BWell
April 24th, 2018

The BFG partnered with BWell, another Brown University organization committed to promoting healthy living on campus, to bring two nutritionists from the Massachusetts area to speak about healthy eating. We made it an engaging event by combining outdoor yoga with the nutritionists’ talk on food, lifestyle and mental health under the Providence Spring sun. Our two nutritionists were Debra Bennett and Nancy Javaras. Debra does work as a life-coach and lifestyle, and combined yoga with speaking about emotional-eating. Nancy Javaras focuses on gut health and how that affects brain health.

BWell provided us with cute goody-bags to offer attendees filled with treats including tea bags and eye masks. We also included Che! Cookies in the goody-bags as generously donated by Che!

5. BFG Banner-Decorating on the Green in partnership with Class Board
April, 2018

The BFG was invited to participate in Class Board’s event, “Serene on the Green” and set up a long banner on the grass for people to draw, paint and leave positive messages on. We set up speakers and had music, insomnia cookies and great vibes flowing through the afternoon.

6. Rock Party
May 8th, 2018

For Finals Period, the BFG decided to throw down outside the Rockefeller Library with pizza, fruit, snacks, kombucha drink, music and drawing materials for some creative release! Look out for our next Rock Party during midterm season!
